Officers Notebook

Deputy Chief Mike Cenci

Mike started his career in law enforcement as a Lewis County Sheriff’s Deuty. When an opportunity to serve as a Fisheries Patrol Officer came along almost 17 years ago, he jjumped at it, fulfilling his lifelong ambition to be a part of protecting the publics natural resources. At one point, he left State service for a short time to work as a Special Agent for the National Marine Fisheries Service but he missed his former teammates and the uniform. He came back, but not before making at least one high seas salmon case where a Chinese flagged vessel was fishing over 200 miles inside of a closed area.

Mike currently is Deputy Chief of Enforcement for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, traveling frequently between his home near the mouth of the Columbia River and the U.S.-Canadian border at Blaine in order to oversee operations. Whenever time permits, he and his family particiapte in outdoor activities that are on the consumptive side. He has to keep a close eye on his two daughters, who have selective hearing when they are told “it’s timeto quit fishing” and seem to struggle with “you have to throw that one back.”
