James A. Goerg

Jim was born and raised in Port Angeles, WA and started fishing as a tyke. Each year just before the lakes opened, Jim, his brother Dick and sister Nancy would rummage through their fathers sporting goods store in search of the perfect lure. Lake Sutherland was the preferred destination and the fierce cutthroat usually fell to worm and hook from the docks. He was reintroduced to fishing as a young adult by "Uncle Bill" and with his son David, they've been solidly hooked ever since.

With a major in fine art and a minor in English, he transferred from junior college to Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle. From there he became West Coast Advertising Manager for Hygrade Meats, then Advertising Manager for IGA Grocery Stores before going on to his own endeavors. Jim had a print/graphics/advertising agency in Renton, WA for many years before again casting off and starting THE REEL NEWS.

His wife Laurie joined the fray and, along with the writers, helped make this publication one of the most widely respected and well read sport fishing publications of the Northwest.

NOTE - If the name "Goerg" sounds familiar, Jim's father, Alfred J. Goerg, published two books (Pacific and Northwest Hunting, Pioneering Handgun Hunting) and wrote for over 100 national outdoor publications including Outdoor Life and Field & Stream.
