Tug’s Tours
Jim “Tug” Tuggle
We consider Jim as our "resident" fish cop (retired). He spent the last 28 years as an officer and a sergeant for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. His monthly column, Tugs Tours, expounds on his many episodes over the years with the department and offers our readers entertaining insight not available elswhere.
As with all of our writers, Tug has his "favorites". Those include, in no particular order: fishing, hunting, rafting, writing, watching the tube, politics, dark-haired women (wife Susan), Canadian Whiskey, Dominician cigars, prime rib, labs, and Ambassadeur reels.
As 1999 Sportsman of the Year from the Northwest Steelhead and Salmon Council of Trout Unlimited, he has developed many "best friends" and decided not to mention Rich because he needs guidance and advice.
On the brag list are the inclusions of a seven point elk (Boone & Crockett bound), four point mule deer, fourty-four pound chinook, seventeen pound coho, twenty-four pound steelhead and the arrest of a 360 pounder from Winlock, WA.
Jim has had two big scares in his life. The first one came during the eruption of Mt. St. Helens while evacuating people in low-lying areas of the Cowlitz River, knowing that a 30" wall of mud and debris was headed his way. The second being the failure of Initiative 696 due to the complacency and ignorance on the part of too many industries to list. "They deserve what they'll soon get.”
