Jon Fulwiler

Jon's love affair with fishing began at age 5 when his dad gave him a steel telescoping rod, a single action, direct drive reel loaded with cutty-hunk line. Rainbow trout, living in beaver dams on the Colockum Creek, (a small tributary of the Columbia River south of Wenatchee) were the prize.

Love turned to addiction when he began chasing steelhead at age 12. Two decades later he left the rivers for the saltchuck, chasing whatever would bite, from Oregon to Alaska. In 1999 his son, Jacob, now a writer for TRN, persuaded him to return to the rivers, once again pursuing the silver ghost.

In between fishing trips Jon has worked for Boeing since 1966. He is a strong advocate of sportsman's rights, having held a position on the Renton Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers for 16 years. Jon, along with others, fought for the elimination of bottom draggers in Puget Sound. During the 90's Jon was a liaison between PSA and the King County Outdoor Sport Council, eventually accepting the position as Salmon Chairman for the Council. Jon also planned and orchestrated the Elliot Bay Salmon Wake, an on the water protest against WDFW policies.

His love for the sport of fishing, and what it has to offer the youth and future generations, coupled with his disdain for those that would take that future away, is the fuel that drives Jon to continue.
